			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There is now enough open courseware at various places to study all of the subjects for getting a degree in electrical engineering (without in fact getting a degree).  It&#8217;s a good chance for people like me who, as a hobby,  are interested in understanding the inner workings of electronic devices and computers and doing some neat projects to learn this subject more painlessly.</p>
<p>For example NPTEL by the IITs in India has its <a href="http://nptel.iitm.ac.in/coursecontents_elec.php?sem=Semester%201">complete ee curriculum</a> up, and is adding <a href="http://www.nptel.iitm.ac.in/videocourselist.php">video lectures</a> and course materials rapidly.</p>
<p>Berkeley has a number of <a href="http://webcast.berkeley.edu/courses.php">quality</a> <a href="http://webcast.berkeley.edu/courses.php?semesterid=25">courses</a> available:</p>
<p>And MIT has a few courses with <a href="http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/courses/av/index.htm#ElectricalEngineeringandComputerScience">audio/video lectures</a>, and some <a href="http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Electrical-Engineering-and-Computer-Science/">others</a> without.</p>
<p>Also, for those who know German, there is a <a href="http://timms.uni-tuebingen.de/List/List01.aspx?rpattern=UT_200[23]_____00[12]_techinfor1_000_">course</a> in &#8220;<a href="http://timms.uni-tuebingen.de/List/List01.aspx?rpattern=UT_2002_____00[12]_techinfo2_000_">techniche informatik</a>&#8221; (=computer engineering) at Tuebingen.</p>
<p>I am also intrigued by  <a href="http://www.nerdkits.com/"> kits</a> and <a href="http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Detail.cfm?Prod=XUPV2P&amp;Nav1=Products&amp;Nav2=Programmable  ">FPGA boards</a> for doing labs/<a href="http://www.fpga4fun.com/">projects </a>on your own.</p>
<p>There is a <a href="http://www.dspguide.com/"> free book on DSP</a> that looks interesting.</p>
<p> <a href="http://www.opencores.org">Open source </a> <a href="http://www.opensparc.net/">hardware</a> is a pretty exciting development.</p>
